I promised I would let you know the ups and downs of bootstrapping since I went solo.
***HTJ stuff***
Really been tested this month. With some clients and candidates I realise that we should have been better at setting expectations on all sides. I also need to be better at explaining to clients on how a specific process produces drastically better results than others. All part of learning and getting better, I need to work on my communication and not being too afraid at pushing back on how things should be done.
Dale, our new delivery dude has already completed a month and got stuck into several roles whilst building his knowledge in HotelTech. We’ve looked at a few systems and finally signed a 1 year contract which should theoretically improve our organisation, info-sharing and end result: improve client & candidate experience.
Christoph is killing it in BD as well as added ideas outside the box. It’s great that we both get hyped up but then we remember there’s only 24 hours in the day so we’re sticking to doing basics well for now. But we do have great ideas in the pipeline!
The GAIN Advisors partnership is in full swing with a couple client intros and already in final negotiations with 2 potential clients.
Aaaand last but not least we’re taking on Anjaly. Our newest VA whom I believe has so much value to give. Anj will be helping us in three key areas: Admin, Marketing & Delivery. We onboard her on Monday with a training plan already set up. It’s quite a broad spanning role but after 6 months we’ll have an idea of which direction out of the three makes sense for her and us to focus into.
***Personal stuff***
Stressful, but good overall (the growth type).
Finally, I am now legally allowed to live in Brazil! I only had two days left until my tourist visa ran out The risk of daily fines past the deadline was stressing me out.
We finally have a fridge. 2-month wait since we ordered…I didn’t realise how detrimental this would be to my health (I am mostly to blame but it’s very hard to find healthy take-aways). That’s the danger of asking me how I am on the calls, you never get the usual “I’m good” with me. It was mostly “I still don’t have a bloody fridge!”
Now that I’m fully established with visa and fridge I can set up an entity.
Since I work from home we’re refurbishing one of the rooms to become a proper office. Really excited about this! And after countless hours of office searching, trades-people haggling and refurbs my wife Kathiusia has just moved into her new office! Really excited for her new step. Fun-fact: she gets all her clients via Instagram.
With visa sorted, I can finally plan business trips. Anyone open to sharing which are the best HotelTech events/locations to go to in 2026? Thinking of doing a Euro tour in the summer (I’m keen on Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, London and Berlin)
Thanks for the support!
